NEWS ON THE DIPPERS.

One fledgling dipper today.

The last I saw of the dippers was three days ago.  I went looking yesterday as I was sure the youngsters where not far off time to fly the nest.
There was no sign, which didn't mean they hadn't flown the nest yet, but I could not spot any adults about.
Yesterday also there where some workmen making a lot of noise banging about with scaffolding and milling about close to the nesting site, which may or may not of had an influence on the fact that the young dipper/s that fledged today.
I decided on a whim to go the River route to the shop on the off chance of spotting something, so took the Cam out with me and was so glad I did or I would have missed this delightful sight. It was so wonderful to see, you wouldn't get a complete sense of  action if you weren't there and I am still in awe.

My hands where shaking with excitement and trying to find a spot that was not to conspicuous was difficult. I was surprised that she/he had been brought right into the open. There was one fledgling and one parent so maybe there are more to come. I know there were two fledglings last year, so I will be on the lookout tomorrow, so hope to get some more pictures and video clips, I will try my best.

Bearing in mind I have found it really difficult to photograph these Birds against the water Don't think I did too bad to be fair, they blend into their surroundings well.

As I thought, there are now two fledgelings the second one having fledged this morning. I would be very surprised to see more than two. So I was delighted of course, however was unable to get a clear enough picture as yet of them together as they are quite obviously easily spooked. So I will be trying tomorrow all being well with the weather.

Well sorry to say it was a no show with the dippers today i such fine weather too.
I was thinking maybe they have take them further up river out of the way of people.
Should I have the pleasure of seeing or photographing them I will be sure to put them up here with an update.
 Updated news on the Dippers.
I have seen them in various places along the river over the last three weeks as I have been out looking for other species. I noted last week they where back at their old haunt. But today couldnt believe my eyes.

They are back to the old nesting site and are taking food into the nest which can only mean one thing
there must be a second brood already.
So I am extremely pleased to be getting a second opportunity in observing and photographing this wonderful River Bird, although it's going to be a bit of a challenge as noisy clanging building work is also going on in this area in fact all around the nesting site, which has left me quite amazed really that they would choose to come back here at all.

You might like to keep an eye on this page for a time as I will be posting pictures and video as and when.
That is if everything pans out and they are not to disturbs by what is happening around them.

Been visiting the site of these lovely birds and glad to be able to say, they are still there taking food into the nest despite the noise and activity going on around them.

Well the weather once again stopped play for a few days then when I did go back to see there was no sign of them.  Until yesterday when I took my new Spotting scope with me. There across the water at the Paddly saw a young Dipper on it's own fishing, just about to get the camera up against the scope and what comes along a dog, bounds into the water and the dipper took off.
Owners of the dog " where you going to take a picture?" Me " Ehh! no I just brought all the equipment with me and set it up to take pictures of Dogs having fun. I wont repeat the words in my head at the time.
I thought that dogs where supposed to be on leads in public spaces. Needless to say no pics.
So I will be going down and trying again today as it is brightening up as I write.
